William Ruto: Kenya Airways will not be on life support forever

William Ruto, a presidential candidate for the UDA, has promised that if elected, he will restore Kenya Airways and make it into what it should be within six months.

He spoke on Thursday at the Kasarani Stadium during the unveiling of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance manifesto.

“Being a national and strategic asset, Kenya Airways is not an asset we would want to let go of at all. Therefore, it cannot also continue to be on life support forever,” he said.

According to Ruto, the aviation industry holds enormous economic potential for the nation.

He emphasized the importance of the aviation sector for Kenya’s continued status as a regional hub, the tourism sector, and the export of fresh products.

The Deputy President noted that until it run into issues a few years ago, Kenya Airways indicated that Kenya could become a major African and even worldwide aviation center.

“Africa has 15 percent of the world’s population but only two percent of air passenger traffic. This means there’s room for growth,” Ruto said.

Ruto also claimed that managerial errors and issues with conflicts of interest were to blame for the company’s issues.
