Autopsy Reveals What Killed Kirinyaga Returning Officer Geoffrey Gitobu

Government Pathologists have ruled out any foul play In the untimely death of Gichugu Constituency returning officer Geoffrey Gitobu.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) employee passed away naturally.

Three pathologists who conducted the lengthy postmortem at the mortuary of Nanyuki Cottage Hospital informed the reporters that the Gichugu Constituency Returning officer passed away as a result of a clot in the pulmonary vein.

“We have established that the 58-year-old died from a blood clot. He was also anaemic,” said Dr Ayub Macharia who had been contracted by IEBC and the family.

According to the deceased’s family, their relative was not afflicted with any recognized life-threatening illness, such as hypertension or diabetes, and only his doctor can shed light on that, according to Dr. Macharia.

Onesmus Towett, the criminal investigation officer for Laikipia County, stated that further body tissues had been retrieved for analysis and that the investigations were still ongoing.

“For now we can say death was natural. However we have taken body samples so that we can conduct further investigations to rule out foul play and that is when we shall declare the probe concluded,” said Mr Towett.

Gitobu collapsed on Monday in Nanyuki as he drove himself. He was rushed to Nanyuki Cottage Hospital but was pronounced dead before he could be attended to.
