Kenyans will now pay 1K for new ID & 2K for replacement

Kenyans who have reached the age of 18 and are looking for an Identity Card will now have to pay Sh1,000.

According to a Gazette Notice dated November 6, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki, the procurement of ID will no longer be free.

Kenyans seeking replacement IDs will now pay Sh2,000, a 20-fold increase from the previous Sh100.

“It is notified the general information of the public that pursuant to Regulation 60 of the Public Finance Management (National Government) Regulations, 2015, the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning has granted to the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration the authority for the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services to revise charges and levies on its services,” the gazette notice read.

Application of initial IDs is done at the National Registration Bureau and Huduma Centres offices countrywide.

National Registration Bureau offices are located within County Commissioners’ offices or Chiefs’ camps.

When applying, one is required to fill out a form detailing their bio-data after which fingerprints and passport photographs are taken.

Persons above the age of 18 years are eligible to hold the identification card.

A waiting card is issued to the applicant upon successful application and will be surrendered when collecting the processed ID card.
