DP Ruto calls for crisis meeting after Nyandarua residents fail to attend his rally

On Monday, May 23, Deputy President William Ruto hosted a meeting with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates at his official Karen residence in Nairobi.

Candidates from the Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s member parties were apparently not invited, sparking suspicion that the alliance is fracturing.

The low attendance was blamed on aggressive campaigns by rival Jubilee Party candidates and the never-ending squabbles between the United Democratic Alliance and its member Kenya Kwanza parties.

During the Nyndarua rally, the disgruntled crowd booed UDA candidates who were invited to speak, but cheered for candidates from other parties.

In the Kipipiria and Kinangop constituencies, for example, the mob booed UDA woman legislator Faith Gitau and requested that Judy Muhia of The Service Party address them (TSP).

In other news, TSP leader Mwangi Kiunjuri decried what he termed sidelining of small parties
affiliated to the Kenya Kwanza during campaigns by UDA in the Mt Kenya region.

Kiunjuri called on principals of the coalition, including Ruto, to address these emerging trends,
which he said could jeopardise the ongoing campaigns.
