President Kenyatta awards charters to 8 Universities

Eight universities received their charters from the outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday at Kakamega State Lodge.

The Universities include four private organizations, while four are public universities.

Kaimosi Friends University in Vihiga, Alupe University in Busia, Tom Mboya University in Homa Bay, and Tharaka University in Tharaka Nithi are a few of the recently chartered universities.

Lukenya University in Makueni County, Zetech University in Kiambu County, Kiriri Women’s University of Science & Technology in Nairobi, and East African University in Kajiado County are private universities that have been granted charters.

President Kenyatta will visit Nzoia Sugar Company in Bungoma County during his three-day working tour to Nyanza and Western Kenya to evaluate the state-owned sugar miller’s continuing rehabilitation and speak with sugarcane growers.

During his visit to the region, President Uhuru Kenyatta also oversaw the ship’s floatation at Kenya Shipyard Limited in Kisumu.

Kenya Shipyard Limited, a state-owned enterprise that falls under the Ministry of Defence, was founded in 2020 with Treasury serving as the only stakeholder.

The 100-meter-long MV Uhuru II can transport up to 22 wagons and is capable of transporting 2 million liters of crude oil every voyage.

The vessel, which cost Sh2.4 billion to build, is scheduled to begin operations later this year.

The Kenya Defense Forces and Damen Shipyards, a Dutch company, worked together to complete the construction.
