Infotrack Deletes Poll Showing Gachagua Was Leading Against Karua

Research firm Infotrak is at the receiving end after pulling down a poll on Twitter asking followers to select their prospective presidential running mates.

The survey was released by the corporation right after a discussion between the four vp contenders in which Ruth Mutua of the Agano Party and Justina Wamae of the Roots Party squared off in the opening round.

In the second round, Rigathi Gachagua of Kenya Kwanza and Martha Karua of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya engaged in a contentious debate that featured rebuttals.

Who is your preferred presidential running mate among the four?

Infortrak asked on Twitter at 21.41 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19, after the session at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

The poll received 51,299 votes from tweeps after four hours.

Gachagua was in the lead with 61.8 percent of the total votes, followed by Karua with 29.1 percent, Wamae with 8.4 percent, and Ruth with 0.6 percent, according to the preliminary figures seen by MkenyaLeo.

However, the firm removed the poll, which set off a social media frenzy.

The pollster, according to some online commenters, is pro-Azimio la Umoja and backs Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign.

Ruto congratulates Gachagua

Deputy President William Ruto celebrated his running mate Rigathi Gachagua after the deputy presidential debate with Azimio’s counterpart Martha Karua.
Taking to his twitter account, the second in command congratulated Rigathi for doing well in the interview.
“Congratulations Rigathi Gachagua my very able running mate. Kenyans are confident that in you we have a seasoned, passionate and focused leader to help us steer Kenya kwanza to victory and the nation to prosperity. We thank almighty God na ubarikiwe saaan. Never mind the media,”  Ruto said.

Speaking during the debate, Rigathi ruled out the possibility of a fallout between him and DP William Ruto should they form the next government.

According to him, the two are strong-willed leaders who respect each other.

“None of us suffers from inferiority complex. At no time will William Ruto ever punish me or mistreat me because he has no reason to,” Rigathi said.

The Mathira MP said him and Ruto have reached a gentleman’s agreement to support each other at whatever cost should they win the August 9 general election.

Rigathi said they would have inherited a debilitated economy such that they will not have time to quarrel.

“We have inherited a country that is on its knees economically, a country that is facing an economic shutdown, we have no time for side shows and competition that is unnecessary,” he added.
