Danstan Omari, a Nairobi-based lawyer, has broken new ground with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration.
Omari alleged to NTV Kenya on Wednesday, February 1, that the Kenya Kwanza administration was sleeping on the volcano that they had raised.
He voiced concern that the volcano will consume the ruling administration.
“When you deal with a former president, we have had three. One died in office, Jomo Kenyatta, and we had Daniel Moi leaving office. Mwai Kibaki retired without going after his predecessor. Uhuru Kenyatta took over from Kibaki and said he would not interfere with his life,” Omari explained.
Omari regretted that Kenya has a new regime that wants to either drag Uhuru Kenyatta to court even as he questioned the impact of such an impact.
“Uhuru has a lot of impacts globally. We are looking at two serious international figures, Uhuru combined with Raila Odinga. Globally, these two control 80% of the networks, William Ruto is a local president and the members of his inner circle like Kimani Ichung’wah are only known upto Kikuyu constituency,” Omari said amid laughter from the panellist.
He urged the ruling administration to withdraw its war against Uhuru and avoid taking that line.
This comes when Ruto’s allies have demanded a probe into the Kenyatta family tax waivers.
A section of Kenya Kwanza Alliance senators said the Kenyattas have been enjoying tax waivers at the expense of millions of Kenyans.
Nandi senator Samson Cherargei claimed Uhuru was undermining the head of state by refusing to pay taxes.
He alleged the retired president was behind the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition political rallies.
“If Uhuru Kenyatta wants to fight/ undermine President Ruto then he should do it personally not using proxies like Tinga. Taxes MUST be paid whether you sponsor political rallies/Maandamos / baby showers regardless of who you are! Give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar!” Cherargei tweeted.
Nyandarua senator John Methu called on the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to audit the tax waivers enjoyed by Uhuru and members of his family when he was in power.
