Shortly after hosting a massive rally at Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium, Ruto addressed his final campaign event in Kiambu’s Kirigiti stadium.

“Our God who art in heaven, we are thankful because you have brought us this far. We are thankful for our country, we come before you, we have an election on Tuesday, August 9 next week, may your will be done in Kenyan elections. We pray for a peaceful election. We pray God you help us and grant us victory in the elections,” Ruto prayed.

In his prayers, Ruto remembered his boss Uhuru Kenyatta asking God to give him long life.

“We pray for all Kenyans, for our families and for the outgoing president, give him long life,” Ruto added.

In an effort to arrive in Kiambu by 6 pm, when all campaigns are supposed to be finished according to election laws, the DP hurried to Wilson airport.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s chairman Wafula Chebukati made a statement that formally proclaimed the campaign period to be over at the same time as the Kirigiti gathering in the late evening.

Chebukati released a statement shortly after 6 p.m. saying, “Candidates and political parties must desist from engaging in any acts of political campaigns outside this period as this would amount to a breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct.”
