Willia Ruto’s swearing-in event to cost Ksh200M – Treasury
New reports show that the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect William Ruto will cost the taxpayer Ksh200 million.
In accordance with article 141 of the Kenyan Constitution, the National Treasury has given the Assumption of Office Committee the funding it needs to organize the event, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 13.
“The allocation of Ksh200 million under the Executive Office of the President is provided for in the National Treasury for Assumption of Office activities,” the Treasury says in a report.
The Supreme Court yesterday dismissed Raila Odinga’s petition challenging the election of Ruto as the country’s fifth president, paving way for his swearing-in.
In a judgement delivered by a seven-judge bench led by Chief Justice Martha Koome, the court ruled that the Kenya Kwanza Alliance leader was validly elected in the elections conducted on August 9.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati had, on August 15, 2022, declared that Ruto won the election with 7,176, 141 votes, which is 50.49% of the total votes cast against Raila’s 6, 942, 930 votes (48.85%).
The Supreme Court dismissed Raila Odinga’s case Wednesday, clearing the way for the inauguration of the country’s fifth president, William Ruto.
A seven-judge panel headed by Chief Justice Martha Koome declared that the leader of the Kenya Kwanza Alliance was duly elected in the elections held on August 9.
Wafula Chebukati, the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, said on August 15, 2022 that Ruto had received 7,176,141 votes, or 50.49% of the total votes cast, to Raila’s 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85%.
