The IEBC published Bahati’s name in its list of candidates for the August General Election on Sunday.
He was previously requested to withdraw in favor of an ODM ticket, but is now running on a Jubilee Party ticket.
The grateful musician celebrated this good news on Instagram, saying:
“When Jesus says yes… Nobody can say no!!! I have been the most fought mp candidate; my loosing opponent tried everything to threaten me & make sure i step down…. But look at what god has done!!! It’s official #iebc has gazetted me …. This is to clarify and make it official that on the 9th of august 2022…. I #kioko_kevin_bahati ✅ i will be on the ballot as the next member of parliament mathare constituency under the #jubilee_azimio ticket!!! Asante yesu, pokea sifa mungu ✅”
The announcement comes after Bahati, who is running on behalf of the Jubilee Party, was urged to withdraw from the contest in favor of an ODM candidate as part of a zoning arrangement within the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition political organization.
The rapper criticized ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna online on June 29 for reportedly ordering him to withdraw his candidacy and support incumbent MP Anthony Oluoch.
He added that he had received a Ksh. 50 million offer to withdraw his bid in favor of Oluoch.
Speaking on Radio Citizen, Bahati revealed that Mr. Oluoch was among those who sought him for assistance but pledged to continue running.
“He told me to do a campaign song for him and support him. They want to use a person from Mathare to get to the people,” said.
