Wanted Man Suspected of Killing “Mchele boss” Samuel Muvota Surrenders to DCI

The man suspected of being the mastermind behind Samuel Mugo Mugota’s broad daylight shooting in Mirema has surrendered to authorities.

Dennis Gachoki Karani denied planning the assassination of Mugota, who was accused of heading a drug-spiking ring that used over 50 women to defraud unsuspecting patrons of nightclubs.

Karani denied being a fugitive in a video obtained by Mkenya Leo. He spoke to the media outside the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Kiambu Road, where he was scheduled to make a statement.

“I was in Nakuru when I learnt that the DCI labelled me as the most dangerous and armed criminal,” the suspect who was accompanied by his lawyer noted.

“Someone recognized me and told me that police had launched a manhunt and were tracking me down. Since then my life turned topsy turvy and I have lacked peace,” he added.

Despite this, Karani admitted to being acquainted with the deceased. They only met twice, though.

“I knew him but I had never had his contact. I got to know him in 2018 during a wedding ceremony in Meru. A friend of mine introduced me to Mugota. After wedding, we used same vehicle back to Nairobi.

“We never exchanged the contacts. At the time of his murder, I was in Nakuru when I heard that he has been killed. I learnt about his death through the media,” the suspect explained.

The DCI, in their earlier statement, claimed that the two reportedly differed on the proceeds of the mchele spyking indicate.

“This among other beefs are suspected to have led to a bitter fallout leading to Monday’s, May 16, daylight murder of Samuel Mugoh Muvota, who has left behind seven grieving widows and countless children,” DCI wrote.

Gachoki, however, denied the allegations, arguing that he was a renowned businessman trading in cereals.

DCI are expected to grill the suspect, who they had earlier on alleged was in contact with rogue accomplices who aided him to evade arrest.
