Ugandan Opposition Leaders Bobby Wine and Kiza Besigye to Observe Kenya’s Elections

Uganda’s top opposition leaders singer Bobby Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, and Kiza Besigye, will be part of the Africa observation team that will be tasked with monitory the electioneering process to ensure transparency and honesty.

Bobby Wine took to his Twitter account that he and Besigye were already in the country ahead of the 9th August poll.

He revealed that his team had met and interacted with Raila Odinga of the Azimio coalition and William Ruto of the Kenya kwanza coalition. Raila and Ruto are among the four contesters of the presidential seat.

Bobby completed his tweet by wishing Kenyans free, fair, and credible elections.

His tweet read, “As part of our mission to observe the #KenyaDecides2022 this Tuesday, I was glad 2 meet & interact w/ Presidential Candidate Rt. Hon. @RailaOdinga. Another part of our team met w/ Candidate @WilliamsRuto. Wishing the great ppl of Kenya a free, fair, credible and peaceful election [sic],”

Interestingly, Bobby Wine and Besigye have unsuccessfully run for elections yearning to dethrone Yoweri Museveni. The two have contested their loss, accusing Museveni of rigging elections.

Apart from Boby Wine and Besigye, other external observers have been deployed across the country.

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) deployed its officers on 7th August for the observation mission. The officers are said to be representative of electoral bodies from the IGAD countries.

On Saturday, 6th August, the Elections Observation Group (ELOG) announced that it would be dispatching over 5000 officers to various polling stations in the country.

Likewise, the African Union (AU) and the Common Market for Southern and Eastern Africa formed a joined committee that will be tasked with observing elections.
