State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita has revealed that he religiously listens to the Gengetone genre of Kenyan music and is an ardent fan of teen sensation Trio Mio.
Waita, speaking to a local media house, practically put the crown on Trio Mio’s head by declaring him the future of Kenyan music.
According to Waita, Trio Mio – if he keeps up his consistency and pace and growth – may just be the one that gets to fly Kenya’s flag far into the distant future.
The Machakos gubernatorial aspirant also revealed that his previous favourite Tanzanian artiste was Lady Jaydee, but she has since been passed by Marioo who is his new favourite Bongo crooner.
“I love Gengetone, Bongo…my previous all-time favourite artiste was Lady Jaydee, but the Tanzanians somehow keep churning them out so (now) I like Marioo very much,” he said.
“Locally, I can’t get enough of Gengetone…I love this kijana Trio (Mio)…I just think he’s the future of music, if he can keep his head on his shoulders.”
Waita further revealed that multiple award-winning Kenyan boy band Sauti Sol performed at his wedding.
The Head of State’s Chief of Staff said he started listening to the band before they becam,e famous, and has gone ahead to be deeply moved by the music and work ethic.
“I have seen Sauti Sol from when they were nothing, and for me they’re probably the best example of creativity, resilience, commitment and excellence that we have in the Kenyan creative industry,” he said.
“Those boys sang at my wedding, and they did so with such grace. They turned my wedding into a really emotive function, and so I have a lot of time for them. They say they’re releasing something this year…I can’t wait…and if they have a concert and we can get rid of this Covid, I’d be very keen to go.”
