One of the top two students in this year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam, 15-year-old Otieno Lewis Omondi, has promised to make his parents happy in the next level.
Omondi had high expectations for himself and promised his parents he wouldn’t let them down when the results were out, just like his engineer father Peter Otieno.
Omondi was first anxious on Wednesday when the CS for Education Ezekiel Machogu released the KCPE results, but he eagerly anticipated the SMS text message informing him of his exam results.
Omondi, who was at his parents’ remote home in Homa Bay County when he received the SMS message, was unable to control his tears.
Omondi, who was in his parents’ rural Homa Bay County home when he received the text message, was unable to contain his pleasure when he saw the outcomes.
After earning 431 points and becoming among the top candidates nationally in the KCPE exam this year, his wish had certainly come true.
The head teacher of St. Peter’s Primary in Mumias called the family as they were still trying to process the news, sending them into a frenzy of joy.
The family made the decision to go the more than 170 kilometers from Homa Bay to Mumias to celebrate the good news just before the Christmas celebrations with the teachers and other parents.
Omondi intends to enroll in Alliance High School and then pursue a degree in engineering at a university.
“I thank God for the impressive performance in the KCPE exam. My parents and teachers gave me the encouragement and support that made all the difference and contributed to my good performance in the exam. My fellow students were there for me all the time whenever I needed their support and help,” said Omondi.
