Tom Osinde: What the missing former treasury official said before disappearing

A former Treasury official Tom Fred Mokaya Osinde has been reported missing.

Mr Osinde is said to have gone missing on June 17. He was traveling from Nakuru and was headed to Kisii, the family said.

Reports say he did not show any sign of distress before he was reported missing on Sunday, June 18.

According to his farmhand, who spoke with the media, Osinde sent him to meet an unidentified lady before he embarked on his trip from Nakuru to Kisii.

The farmhand claimed that Osinde offered him some money alongside strict instructions to accomplish the assignment.

However, he did not share the number of the lady he was supposed to meet.

“There was a place he sent me, uninformed of the woman’s identity. The woman was to identify me by how I was dressed.

“Before I left, he had spoken with the lady on the phone. As he had instructed, I went to the petrol station, and the woman positively identified me, adding that he delivered the money.

Another farmhand revealed that they were grilled by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nakuru over the mysterious disappearance of the former Treasury official.

“After we recorded statements in Nakuru, DCI officials questioned us. They asked us for specific information that would help to trace him. We only explained what we knew,” the servant disclosed.

His family members added that they also spoke with him on the fateful day before he left for Kisii. They, however, did not divulge the details of the conversation.

“The most important thing is to help bring him back alive. As of now, everyone is trying to ensure that our kin is safe and sound,” a family spokesperson maintained.

Police in Transmara West, Narok County, recovered his black Toyota Land Cruiser with missing license plates, dumped in the Sigawa area in Narok.

According to area police officers, detectives traced the car following a tip-off by concerned Narok residents.

“The vehicle was towed to Kilgoris Police Station. We are analysing documents which were found in the vehicle. The evidence was filed with the sub-county criminal investigating officer to assist in the investigation,” Jamleck Ngaruiya, OCPD Transmara West, stated.

Ngaruiya added that police had launched a search and rescue mission for Osinde after discovering his car.

Police also sought to analyse his phone records to piece together his last conversations and signals.

Tom Osinde is a sibling to Ken Osinde, who passed away on Friday, December 10, after a protracted battle with an undisclosed illness.

The deceased served as the Chief of Staff at President William Ruto’s office and Kenya’s ambassador to Germany before his demise.
