Kenyan TikTok comedian and online content creator Andrew Wambua Mboya, popularly known as Tom Daktari, has finally spoken out after being swept up in a whirlwind of drama involving claims of fathering a child he allegedly abandoned.
In a candid interview with YouTuber Trudy Kitui on Saturday, May 24, 2025, Tom set the record straight — and he did it with the same humor and honesty that made him a fan favorite.
“There is a lady, I don’t know her — she just woke up one day and took a photo with her child, then placed me next to them. It’s like this girl looked at her child and said, ‘This one could resemble Tom,’” he said, clearly baffled by the entire ordeal.
As soon as the mystery woman posted the viral video, the internet did what it does best — judge first, ask questions never. Tom says he was bombarded with messages, DMs, and unsolicited parenting advice from strangers convinced he was a runaway dad.
“Watu walianza kusema, ‘Huyu fala alee mtoto,’” he recalled. “They didn’t even ask if it’s true. They just declared me guilty.”
Even his own father wasn’t spared from the internet’s influence. The seasoned content creator shared that his dad called him with fatherly wisdom — and a dose of misplaced concern.
“My dad called and told me, ‘If the child is yours, just raise them.’ I had to explain to him that it was just a TikTok thing.”
Despite the emotional toll, Tom said he chose not to sue or retaliate. Instead, he took the high road — after blocking the woman, of course.
“Niliskia vibaya, lakini I blocked them. I was going to take legal action, but I told her politely, ‘Please take the video down. It doesn’t make sense. I don’t even know you.’”
Tom emphasized that while the allegations were false, the real damage was the way innocent children are dragged into online stunts.
“Stop involving children in clout-chasing,” he pleaded. “This is not a game.”
With a fast-growing following and a reputation built on wit and relatability, Tom Daktari has built more than a brand — he’s become a trusted online voice. But even he admits that navigating the internet’s darker side comes with the job.
His takeaway for fans and followers? Verify before vilifying — and maybe call your dad before the internet does.
“Just because something’s viral doesn’t make it true. Clout is temporary — but reputation is forever.”
For now, Tom Daktari is back to doing what he does best: making Kenyans laugh — this time, with a few more lessons under his belt and a whole lot more screenshots.
