Jeff Mwathi family wants fresh investigation into his death, insists he was killed

The late interior designer Jeff Mwathi’s family has expressed dissatisfaction with how security services have handled their relative’s death investigation.

Jeff’s mother Anne Mwathi told the journalists at the family’s home in Njoro, Nakuru County, that she has no faith in the success of the Directorate Criminal Investigations (DCI) investigations.

Ms. Mwathi insisted that her son was murdered and questioned why no one has been detained in relation to Jeff’s passing.

“I believe that my son was murdered at DJ Fatso’s house. He did not commit suicide,” said Ms Mwathi.

She added: “Why should the DCI put me through all this including exhuming the body of my son and there are no arrests.”

Jeff’s mother pointed out that the family has not received a report on the post-mortem conducted after Jeff’s body was exhumed.

“We do not expect the report taken to the DCI will bring results. We did not get the autopsy report yet, we do not know anything,” she said.

On her part, Jeff’s grandmother Teresia Mwathi said they are bitter as a family, noting that Kenya is an unjust country to the poor.

“Tumeudhika na tunaona Kenya haina justice kwa wanyonge… Tunaona Kenyans tuko mara mbili, wanyonge na wenye pesa,” she said.

Teresia Mwathi went on to claim that there was a cover-up in the investigation process.

“Tunaskia kuna rumours kuna watu wakubwa wanashikilia huyo DJ. Mtu amepewa pesa kucover up. Tumeachia mungu,” said the grandmother.

Last month, homicide detectives handling the case disclosed that from their probe, the 23-year-old interior designer was murdered and did not jump to his death as earlier reported.

Detectives from the DCI further said that their investigations, after the scene reconstruction and forensic analysis, point to clear signs of a struggle inside Mugithi musician Lawrence Njuguna alias DJ Fatxo’s house.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has since forwarded the file on the investigations into Jeff Mwathi’s death to the DPP’s office for action.
