Human bone remains discovered in a ranch in Machakos County on Tuesday, May 16, fuelled fears of a mass grave in the vast area.
Residents residing in the Kalelini neighborhood of Kanyonyoo, which borders the Yatta and Kitui constituencies, discovered the bones believed to have been buried there under dubious circumstances.
Residents are now concerned that more victims may have been buried there, despite calls for investigations.
Yatta B2 Ranch is one of the most massive lands in the Lower Eastern region, encompassing over 53,000 acres and potentially taking investigating officers weeks to complete if inquiries are launched.
In August 2021, 15 persons went missing in the Yatta B2 Ranch after being attacked by over 100 armed goons.
Kenyans were concerned that the discovery of human remains might lead to the region being utilized to bury the victims.
The remains discovered at Yatta B2 Ranch have yet to be identified in order to determine the circumstances behind the victims’ deaths.
The discovery at Yatta B2 Ranch coincided with the declaration of Chakama Ranch in Kilifi County as a crime scene.
That was after remains were discovered in shallow graves in the ranch’s Shakahola Forest.
The bodies were said to have been buried under the supervision of suspected cult leader Paul Mackenzie, who is accused of inflicting forced starvation on his followers in the name of religious fasting.
