The promise made by Susan Kihika, the governor of Nakuru County, to bail out a Molo woman who gained national prominence after her kids ate chameleons, has begun to be carried out.
When her younger children were starving, her older son killed and prepared chameleons, according to Joyce Chemng’etich.
As the poison began to react, things took a turn for the worst, necessitating the children’s emergency transport to the hospital.
Kihika intervened by providing her employment with the county administration and relocation to a nicer house because it was a case that shattered many people’s hearts.
Until she is able to care for her children on her own, the mother of seven was also given three months’ worth of house rent and food shopping.
“Her children will be taken back to school. They will be educated from primary to secondary school. Those who will opt for vocational training will also be supported,” said deputy director of communications in Nakuru county Kigotho Mwangi Kigotho.
The governor is now abroad, but she is keeping track on the situation, the communications officer continued.
After the kids were released from the hospital, Kihika’s team brought them grocery and furniture shopping.
Since they will be able to sleep on actual beds for the first time ever, this will mark a turning point for the family.
The governor’s intervention ushers in a new era of life for a family that was going without food just a few days prior.
The public has praised the politician for providing for the impoverished family while they wait for Chemng’etich to begin working in a position that is not yet official.
