Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Wednesday stated that he will retain the Kenyan boxing legend Conjestina Achieng’ in his establishments once she recovers fully.
Through a post on social media, Sonko noted that he will not allow her to go back to the rural home in Siaya.
Instead, he promised to hire her as assistant head of security in his Club and head trainer in all his gyms.
“This time round we are not releasing her to go back to Siaya. Immediately, she is discharged after fully recovering, I have already prepared a good plan for her where she will also be earning a salary.
She will be the overall assistant head of security and head of all female bouncers at Club Volume Mombasa at night & during peak hours/holidays.
She will also serve as the head trainer in all the gyms in our establishments (Salama Bling Beach Resort, Kimeremeta Safari Lodge etc…). As a long term measure, we are intending to open for her a boxing training centre where she will be coaching boxing.”

In July last year, Sonko, said he was saddened by the plight of the former boxer and hit out at leaders who had neglected Conjestina despite being one of the sports legends of the country.
“I’m truly saddened by this WhatsApp message from Conjestina’s son. Our leaders are busy campaigning while one of our shujaas who once made this country proud is currently languishing in poverty and needs help due to her ill health. “
“I have singlehandedly helped her before, taken her to various hospitals and rehabilitation centres including Nairobi County rehabilitation centre in Parklands, Diani Beach among others where she gets full recovery and discharged then when she gets back to shags after a while gets worse again,” wrote Sonko.
He vowed to ensure Conjestina gets the help she needs, including taking her to a pastor for prayers.
