Leader of Azimio la Umoja Raila Odinga claims that his anti-government protests, scheduled for March 20, would proceed as scheduled and that he has no concern about getting hurt by police while doing so.
On that fatal day, Raila declared that even if the police decide to kill them, only the body would be harmed and the spirit would live on.
The former premier stated that he and his followers will not grow weary “as long as we know we know we are fighting for a just course” in an interview on Saturday, March
“I am not afraid. If the police want to harm us, let them do it. We will not tire as long as we know we’re fighting for a just course. They can harm the body, but the spirit will continue to live. We, however, expect the police to provide security and not to be a threat,” said Raila.
When asked about some of the companies his followers need to boycott, the ODM leader insisted telecommunication firm Safaricom was top of the list.
Raila claimed that the company had a hand in rigging him out during the 2022 General Election. He was, however, tight-lipped on the other, just mentioning a “firm that sells insurance premiums”.
The Opposition leader remained firm that for him to call off the demos, President William Ruto needed to ensure the cost of living was lowered and pave the way for the opening of IEBC servers and allow and independent audit of election results.
“If Ruto agrees to open the server and we find that he is the one who won, the demos will stop,” he added.
According to Raila, the demos will continue even past 2027, and “there will be no elections” if Ruto does not yield to his bare minimums.
In related news, Ruto criticized Raila Odinga’s proposal to hold protests on March 20.
According to the president, the government will not permit Kenyans to lose their lives or their possessions in the name of peaceful protests.
“The government will not allow loss of life, destruction of property and looting. We will not allow a few individuals who have refused to accept election results to cause chaos among peace-loving people,” Ruto said.
