Simon Muteti, who was reportedly abducted by unknown individuals in October 2024, has been found alive after months of extensive searching.
The President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), Faith Odhiambo, confirmed on Tuesday morning that Muteti had been located and reunited with his family.
Despite being safely returned, Muteti remains deeply traumatized by the distressing experience he underwent while in captivity.
LSK has assured that he will receive both legal assistance and psychological support to help him recover from the ordeal.
Muteti was allegedly taken on October 22, 2024, in Timau, Laikipia County, by individuals suspected to be members of the Special Operations Unit (SOU).
His disappearance became widely known in January 2025 when his family sought legal intervention from LSK.
During the same period, another family from Garsen reported a similar case to LSK, stating that their relative, who had been detained at Garsen Police Station, went missing on October 5, 2024.
LSK has pointed to these cases as part of a troubling pattern of enforced disappearances across Kenya, not just in urban centers but in various regions.
This latest development follows the discovery of several other missing persons in recent months. In December 2024, 24-year-old Billy Mwangi and 22-year-old Peter Muteti were found alive after reportedly being abducted on December 20.
Mwangi was rescued by a Good Samaritan who helped reunite him with his family, while Muteti was found in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD).
Additionally, on the same day, Rony Kiplagat, brother of cartoonist Kibet Bull, was discovered in Machakos, and Benard Kavuli was located in Kitale.
These cases highlight an increasing concern over abductions and enforced disappearances in the country.
LSK has reiterated its commitment to advocating for justice and ensuring victims receive the necessary support. As cases of abductions continue to surface, there is growing pressure on authorities to address the issue and hold perpetrators accountable.
