Renowned journalist Ken Mijungu has set the record straight regarding his exit from Cape Media Limited, clarifying that he was not fired but had requested time to reflect on his role, a request that was met with termination.
In an email addressed to his employer, Mijungu explained that after three weeks at the company, he was still struggling to find his place and requested additional time to evaluate his role.
He cited interruptions from colleagues as one of the challenges affecting his ability to settle into the new environment.
“This is compounded by the interruptions I have had with my colleagues. Due to the foregoing reason, I kindly request you to extend me some time to figure this out,” Mijungu wrote.
However, Cape Media‘s management responded the following day with a formal termination letter, revoking his service agreement effective February 22, 2025.
“Having considered the matter, Management has taken the decision to revoke the Service Agreement dated 31st January 2025,” the letter signed by Lillian Makandi, on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer, read in part.
The company, however, left the door open for potential future engagements, stating, “We shall be pleased to engage with you on future possibilities.”
Mijungu’s clarification comes amid speculation that he was dismissed from Cape Media. By sharing the official communication, he aims to dispel such rumors and provide context to his departure.
His exit marks yet another shift in his media career, following his previous roles at NTV and other major news outlets.
