Several people injured as Kenyans break fence forcing their way into Kasarani Stadium

Over five people have been injured in a stampede at the Kasarani Stadium as Kenyans forced their way into the venue to witness President-elect William Ruto’s swearing-in.

In the Tuesday, September 13, incident, the anxious attendees, while screaming hysterically, overwhelmed the security officers managing the stadium’s gate and broke it.

Others breached the five-meter fence and trooped into the venue without being frisked.

In the event, several people sustained injuries and were evacuated from the scene by the Kenya Red Cross personnel.

As earlier reported, thousands of Kenyans thronged Kasarani Stadium to witness Ruto’s inauguration as the fifth head of state.

In anticipation of being part of history, Kenyans started arriving at the venue as early as 3am and by 5am, the police said the stadium was already filled to capacity.

Consequently, in a statement, police spokesperson Bruno Shioso implored Kenyans to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings, especially from the comfort of their homes.

“To avoid logistical challenges, this is to request the public to make alternative arrangements to view the proceedings, especially from the comfort of their homes. We thank you for your continued cooperation,” said Shioso.
