SAD! Five pupils, driver die in accident at Kaburengu

On Saturday night, five students from Ebenezer Academy in Busia County perished as a result of an accident involving the school bus they were riding.

According to a police report turned in at Matete police station in Kakamega county, the accident around 7:30 pm took place in Kaburengu, close to Webuye town.

According to reports, a Mercedes Benz struck the school bus while it was on its way from Eldoret to Webuye town.

Police have initiated a manhunt after the driver of the Mercedes Benz fled the scene.

The five, consisting of a boy and four girls, perished instantly.

Their remains have been taken to the mortuary at the Webuye County Hospital.

“It happened that an unknown driver who escaped from the scene was driving a Mercedes Benz from Eldoret direction heading towards Webuye and while at Chimoi, he lost control of the said vehicle ramming into the bus,” police said.

“Due to the impact, four girls and a boy were fatally injured. The school bus driver aged 48 years also died on the spot.”

Six other pupils sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at the Webuye County Hospital.

Two teachers were also injured and are in hospital receiving treatment.
