Rigathi Gachagua offers full scholarship to needy high school student

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has offered to fully sponsor the education of a Form 4 student who captured his attention with her melodious voice during the concluded 94th Music Festival in Kisumu.

The visually impaired student sang her heart out and impressed the DP with her gift.

“I have listened to a student in Form 4 from the Thika School of the visually impaired by the name June. I have heard the most melodious voice I have ever had in my life,” Gachagua stated while closing the festival at Kisumu Girls High School on Friday, September 23

“In recognition of this melody and to encourage the young girl, I will take over her education up to where she goes,” the DP added.

Earlier on in his speech, Gachagua congratulated the organisers for planning and overseeing the event which he stated was a success.

He also recognised the national government administrators, from the police commanders and chiefs, for coordinating with the organisers to nurture the talent of the students.

“May I encourage our teachers to continue doing the good job they are doing in harnessing the talent of our young people through co-curricular activities,” he added.

Gachagua stated that he was moved by various plays and poems and was excited at seeing the students exploit their talents.

He encouraged students to continue being creative and exploit new ways of making ends meet. Gachagua cited musician Charles Njagua Kanyi also known as Jaguar, as one of the best examples. Jaguar is the immediate former Starehe MP.

John Kiairie (KJ) was also summoned on stage to motivate the students. KJ used to act as a comedian in the popular Redkyulass series. He amused the crowd with his impersonation of President William Ruto.

24-year-old Bomet women representative, Linet Toto, also encouraged the students with her grass to grace story. Toto trounced veteran politicians to win the seat.

Other attendees at the event were Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha and Kisumu governor, Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Gachagua assured the CS and parents that CBC, which has been key in the development of students, will be reviewed rather than scrapped as reports alleged.
