Raila rejects presidential results, heads to Supreme Court

He claimed the IEBC chair could have incited violence by acting in a dictatorial manner.

“He could have plunged the country into chaos. Such impunity can be a threat to security. It is not up to us to determine whether Chebukati has committed illegality,” he said.

“Four protested the action… Commissioners walked out. Figures announced by Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law.”

After receiving 7,176,141 votes, Ruto was declared the victor on Monday by Chebukati, ahead of close competitor Raila, who received 6,942,930 votes, or 48.85% of the vote.

Ruto received more than 25% of the votes cast in 39 of the 47 counties, above the minimum 24 counties needed by the Constitution. In 34 counties, Raila received 25% of the votes cast.

Following the results, Chebukati gazetted Ruto as the next president.

The results of the presidential election have been contested by four IEBC commissioners.
