George Oduor, a longtime aide and bodyguard to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, will be laid to rest on Friday, April 11, 2025, at his home in Ndori, near Bondo.
His passing has left a deep void among his family, friends, and political colleagues, with many mourning the loss of a dedicated and professional figure who served both Raila Odinga and his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, for decades.
In a statement, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party confirmed the burial arrangements and announced that condolence books had been opened at Chungwa House in Lavington and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi.
Oduor passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, while receiving treatment at a city hospital. Raila Odinga, in an emotional tribute, described Oduor as a pillar of strength and unwavering loyalty, not just to him but also to the entire Jaramogi family.
“George has been part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late ’80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together. He was a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide, a dependable rock by my side through tumultuous periods. I will miss George dearly,” Raila said.
The ODM leader extended his heartfelt condolences to Oduor’s wife, Carol George, his family, colleagues, and friends, noting that his passing was a devastating loss to all who knew him.
A Legacy of Loyalty and Service
Oduor’s journey in political service began in the late 1980s when he worked with Raila’s father, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. After Jaramogi’s passing in 1994, he transitioned into Raila Odinga’s security team, where he became a trusted aide for decades.
His unwavering commitment and professionalism earned him deep respect from Raila’s allies, with many describing him as more than just a bodyguard—a close friend and a brother in the quest for democracy and good governance in Kenya.
Several leaders allied to Raila have since condoled with the family, highlighting Oduor’s role in Kenya’s political history and his contributions to the struggles for justice and political reforms.
