President William Ruto has appointed Samuel Waweru Mwangi as the new Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for a three-year term, effective April 1, 2025.
The appointment, announced in a Kenya Gazette Special Issue (Vol. CXXVII – No. 65), revokes the previous appointment of Irungu Nyakera, who had been serving in the position.
The move is in line with Section 43 (1)(a) of the Tourism Act, which empowers the President to make such appointments.
The decision marks another strategic change within the tourism and hospitality sector, as KICC remains a key pillar in Kenya’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) industry. The government has been keen on revitalizing the tourism sector and positioning Kenya as a global conference destination.
Samuel Waweru Mwangi’s leadership at KICC is expected to focus on enhancing the convention center’s global competitiveness, attracting more international events, and improving its infrastructure.
This latest appointment reflects President Ruto’s ongoing efforts to restructure key government institutions by appointing individuals aligned with his administration’s vision.
The public will be keen to see the impact of this leadership transition on KICC’s operations and its contribution to Kenya’s economic growth.
