On Wednesday, June 7, the Senate led by Speaker Amason Kingi mourned the demise of Maria Elizabeth, the daughter of former Vice President Moody Awori.
Prior to her passing on Tuesday, June 6, Elizabeth worked as the main assistant clerk.
However, Kingi withheld the cause of her death.
The deceased attended New Hampshire College in Manchester, England, where she earned both her undergraduate and master’s degrees.
“She joined the Parliament when she was young. I, too, was young. You could never tell that she was the daughter of Moody Awori.
“My special condolences to Uncle Moody and the family. Fare thee well my sister. I was shocked when you mentioned her name,” Kakamega senator, Boni Khalwale, eulogised.
Many senators praised her for her down-to-earth manner and commitment to service.
She was building up to her last day, which was yesterday when the Senate reconvened after a protracted break, so this was clear.
“I would like to pass my condolences to the family of our former vice president, Moody Awori, who we worked with.
“We say sorry. Many times we don’t expect our children to go before us,” mourned Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana.
