After turning down a fully financed scholarship to pursue her Masters in Italy in order to become an Assistant Commissioner for Kakamega County, a 25-year-old became the talk of the town.
Patricia Too was chosen as one of the youngest assistant commissioners during a recent government recruitment drive in October 2021.
The problem arose when she was also offered a Master’s degree in ICT for internet and multimedia at the University of Padua in Italy, an offer that she conceded put her in a pickle.
Ultimately, her desire to serve the country in any capacity is what pushed her to take up the job.
“If someone had told me early this year that I will willingly turn down a fully funded international scholarship to study for my Masters in Italy I would have told them to stop joking because it would have been a dream come true for me.”
“If someone had told me earlier this year that I will be an Assistant County Commissioner, I would have just laughed and brushed it off.
“Today, I tell you all the above happened, I was in a dilemma, scholarship or job,(but here I am) your village girl is now an Assistant County Commissioner.” she stated.
The assistant commissioner noted that her inspiration was based on proving that young leaders can propel the country forward.
According to her LinkedIn page, her background involves interest on Information and Communication Technology (ICT)- a course that she let go for the sake of her dreams.
Too went to the Kenya High School from 2011 to 2014 and attained a B+ in her KCSE. In 2015 she enrolled at Rongo University to study a course in ICT.
After graduating in 2019, Too began her career at the Ministry of Interior Immigration Department as an Intern. She ended up working as an ICT Intern at the Office of the President for three months.
She then worked in the ICT department at the Public Service Commission before receiving an opportunity to work at the Ministry of Interior, where she was deployed to Kakamega to serve as an Assistant County Commissioner.
