Mental health advocate Onyango Otieno is a childhood trauma therapist who tells stories for healing and connection.
According to him, he was so traumatised and it has taken him 10 years to open up about it.
“I was rap”d by our house manager when I was 20. It was my first sex*al experience. That shit messed me up on top of the childhood trauma I already had. It’s taken me 10yrs to talk about it. Couldn’t even write it in my journals. Boys, we were never taught to speak about our pain,’ he said.
Adding,
“So many boys and men undergo sexual abuse and it’s tough on them to speak up because they were not taught the mechanism of healthy expression about their pain. This explains a lot of high rates of male suicide and trauma. And it’s multifaceted.”
In a past interview, he was quoted saying that following the abuse, he was not angry but rather confused because it had been his first se*ual encounter and it occurred in such a tragic manner.
He revealed that he contracted an infection from the encounter and it was ten years later- after seeking therapy- that he realized he had been violated.
After revealing that incident, Otieno trended for weeks with a section of Kenyans joking about it.
Since then, Otieno has mastered the art of keeping people talk, especially Kenyans on Twitter (KOT).
He is unique and love posting unique content.
Now, on June 1, 2023, he trended for whole day after posting a ‘weird’ video to celebrate Madaraka Day.
Part of KOT felt disgusted with the video, but others hailed him for focusing on his happiness.
