Authorities think that a love triangle had a role in the gruesome death of a police officer on Thursday in Kipipiri, Nyandarua County.
Officers from Turasha Police Station discovered Corporal Joseph Kahungu, 59, lying in a pool of blood after receiving a tip from members of the public who had spotted his mangled body.
Kahungu’s face and neck bore numerous serious slashes, and his wrist was separated from his right hand. Additionally, his right foot had been severed from his leg.
The victim was last spotted leaving Turasha Police Station to buy some smokes from a neighboring shop, according to preliminary police investigations.
It is believed that during this time, he came into contact with John Thiong’o Kinyanjui, the man he would have killed.
Tabitha Wanjira Thiong’o, 40, the suspect’s ex-wife, has been detained by police to help in their inquiries.
“The motive of murder is suspected to be love triangle. The officer was due for retirement on October 24, 2023. The scene was visited by SCPC Kipipiri, DCI Kipipiri, OCS Turasha and processed,” a police report seen by Citizen Digital reads.
The deceased’s body has since been moved to JM Kariuki Hospital morgue in Ol Kalou for storage as investigations into the gory incident continue.
