Ayub Savula, the deputy governor of Kakamega, asserts that he and Governor Fernandes Barasa share equal authority.
Savula claims that the county government has been split into two halves, with him in charge of one and Barasa in charge of the other.
In light of this, he declared that his proper title should be co-governor rather than deputy governor.
“Don’t let anyone lie to you that Savula returned to deputyship, we have divided the county government and the government of Kakamega into two. Barasa has taken half and Savula has taken half,” he said in a tweet on Monday morning.
“Constitutionally, Kamagega has ten ministries. Barasa amechukua ministries tano na mimi nimechukua tano. I am not a deputy governor, I am a co-governor.”
Savula’s allegations follow one day after he asserted that members of the Azimio la Umoja coalition had coerced him into joining the group and endorsing Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign in the just-concluded General Election.
“I have not mentioned it to anyone but today I will go public about it. It is the coercion from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) that forced me to support the Azimio coalition. They arrested me together with my two wives at night on fictitious charges,” he said at a funeral in Lugari on Saturday.
Savula stated that he is eager to collaborate with President-elect William Ruto as he prepares to officially take over the Kenyan leadership on Tuesday at the Kasarani stadium.
