Since devolution began nine years ago, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho and his Machakos counterpart Dr. Alfred Mutuma have been rated as the worst performers.
Amason Kingi’s Kilifi was one among the counties that experienced a fall in growth, according to the first-ever Kenya County Fact Sheets, which were published on Wednesday, June 29.
Ksh3.2 trillion total was awarded to countries based on a number of parameters, however while some experienced a noteworthy rise in development, the three experienced a decline.
Elgeyo Marakwet, led by Alex Tolgos, Nyandarua, under Francis Kimemia, and West Pokot, under John Lonyangapuo, are a few that have made progress.
Speaking during the event, Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa confirmed that over Ksh3.2 trillion that had been disbursed to 47 counties.
“For the last nine years, we have a whopping over Ksh3.2 trillion that has gone our 47 counties. As we unveil this fact sheet, the main issue here that every Kenyan should ask themselves is ‘have you gotten value for this money?”
James Katule, the CEO of the Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) urged Kenyans to query their Governors about how the funds were ultimately used.
“That money has gone through the 47 Governors of this country. Can we pause and ask ‘What have they done with that money? Therefore that money should have been used to reduce poverty in this country,” Katule said.
13 counties saw stagnant growth during this time, including Homa Bay, Murang’a and Taita Taveta.
Counties with largest allocation
In accordance with its population size, Nairobi earned the largest allotment, valued at Ksh130 billion, followed by Kakamega at Ksh86 billion and Nakuru at Ksh82.9 billion, according to the data.
