Tragedy struck in Kibera, Nairobi, on Sunday night, November 17, when 23-year-old Sospeter Onyango Osungo aka Akoko sirkal, a fourth-year architecture student at Kirinyaga University, met a brutal and untimely death.
Known to many as Billionaire Evance Akoko or Sirikal, the young man was attacked and killed by a mob of bodaboda riders in a violent altercation that has left his family, friends, and the public in shock.
The Events Leading to the Tragedy
Akoko, originally from Gem, Siaya County, had arrived in Kibera in high spirits, driving an Audi Q3 alongside two companions—a male and a female friend.
Witnesses report that he parked near a popular nightclub with plans to treat a longtime friend and even offered to buy drinks for patrons at the venue.
As the night progressed, Akoko and his friends moved to another club hosting a live performance by a prominent Ohangla musician.
However, tension flared when his entourage clashed with a group of bodaboda riders outside the venue.
Witnesses allege that Akoko made a comment about his ability to “shoot the riders,” sparking outrage among the gang, who accused him of being a thief.
The situation escalated rapidly. Armed with knives and pangas, the mob attacked Akoko, inflicting seven fatal stab and hack wounds. His companions were also injured in the fray, while their driver managed to escape and alert the authorities.
Akoko sirkal’s death
Akoko succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His body was transported to Chiromo Morgue, awaiting an autopsy.
His injured friends were rushed to the hospital for treatment, while police launched an investigation into the perpetrators of the violent act.
Nairobi police commander Adamson Bungei condemned the mob action, emphasizing that “mob justice is a criminal act.” He assured the public that a dedicated team is pursuing the suspects responsible for the murder.
Akoko sirkal’s Opulence and Mystery
Akoko was widely recognized for his extravagant lifestyle, which he showcased on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
His posts frequently featured luxury cars, expensive outings, and road trips, earning him admiration from many of his followers. However, the source of his wealth remained unclear, raising questions after his death.
His passing comes just weeks after the death of another Kirinyaga University student, Dennis Oduor Otieno, popularly known as Denno Bright.
Like Akoko, Denno was known for his sudden rise to wealth and a lifestyle of luxury and partying. Denno, aged 25, died on October 10, 2024, in Mombasa after collapsing following a night of heavy partying.
An autopsy linked his death to heart complications, acute pancreatitis, and a depressed central nervous system, conditions associated with alcohol or substance use.
Akoko’s family Grief and Broader Implications
Akoko’s family, particularly his mother, is grappling with the devastating loss of their son. Police have recorded statements from witnesses, including Akoko’s friends and a longtime friend he visited in Kibera.
This tragedy highlights deeper issues surrounding mob justice, unchecked violence, and the risks of leading enigmatic and flamboyant lifestyles.
