Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko leaves EACC Integrity Centre to appear in court
Governor Sonko’s woes
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday morning was briskly accompanied out of the Ethics and Anti-Coruption Commission (EACC) headquarters for his arraignment.
The quick operation saw the Governor whisked into a private, tinted mini van and quickly driven to the Milimani Law courts.
The Governor donned a red and gray hoodie and kept his head low as if to avoid being noticed.
The Governor was dramatically arrested on Friday at a police road block in Voi, Taita Taveta County as he attempted to flee to Mombasa.
Charges against Sonko
Governor Sonko is facing eight charges that were outlined by DPP Noordin Haji as; conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, willful failure to comply with law relating to procurement, conflict of interest, abuse of office, unlawful acquisition of public property, deceiving principal, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
The National Police Service (NPS) is also expected to prefer assault charges against the Governor.
In a statement by Director of Corporate Communications Charles Wahong’o, the police outlined that Sonko assaulted and injured the senior police officer leading the team and damaged media equipment.
