Naekana Route 134 Sacco Society Limited popularly known as Naekana Sacco, is a Kenyan public service transport company.
The company is one of the longest serving matatu operators in the country, having been in operation for more than 4 decades.
A trip to down town Nairobi near OTC, one would not miss the long line of the white vehicles with blue and orange stripes offloading passengers while others take off.

How it Started
Naekana Route 134 Sacco Society Limited was founded in the 1970’s. Initially, it operated Peugeot 504 station wagons. In the 1990’s, a group of members formed an organization called Namanga Nissan Services operating Nissan QD’s.
In early 2000 a group of 27 members came up with an idea of forming the Sacco and on November 23, 2003, it was officially registered as Naekana Route 134 Sacco Society Limited under the Ministry of Marketing and Co-operative Development.
Today, the Sacco has a fleet of over 260 vehicle.
Management
The Sacco is managed by a team of 7 members of the board and a CEO.
Joseph Ireri is the Chief Executive Officer of the Sacco. Naekana’s chairman is Paul M. Matampash.
Other members of the management team include: Nancy W. Ngondi – Secretary, John M. Chege – Treasurer, Paul M. Murua – Chairperson Credit Committee, Daniel L. David – Secretary Credit Committee, Phillip J. Mwaura – Member Credit Committee, and Benson M. Timothy.
Services
Apart from the passenger services, Naekana also offers courier services along the routes their vehicles operate on.
As the Sacco was established, the members developed a culture of saving to improve their livelihoods.
The Sacco also also offers savings and loan services to its members.
According to the company website, the Sacco has recorded in excess of Ksh155 million in member deposits.
Naekana Sacco offers long term, emergency, development and normal loans to their members. The sum of the loan is dependent on the amount of savings.
Routes
It links Nairobi to over 12 destinations which includes major towns in Kajiado, Makueni, Machakos and Mombasa Counties.
Some of its major routes include: Nairobi – Kitengela – Isinya – Kajiado – Namanga, Nairobi – Mtoto Andei – Voi – Mombasa, Nairobi – Emali – Loitoktok – Taveta – Voi – Mombasa, Nairobi – Mbumbuni – Wote.
Charges
The Sacco charges affordable rates which are normally constant during normal and peak seasons.
For the standard Nairobi-Kajiado route, the Sacco charges Ksh400 per head. Prior to Covid-19, the Sacco charged Ksh250 per head for the same route.
