Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen on Sunday claimed that he and Interior CS Fred Matiang’i had a long shared history before joining government in 2013.

The Elgeyo Marakwet Senator said he and Matiang’i were struggling professionals who used to hustle for consultancy tenders in government offices.

“There are those who came from the University where we used to teach with a lot of English. I was among them but I left and had to drop all that English to lead these simple people.

“I want to tell Matiang’i, I personally saved you and you can confirm that in the Hansard during the Ruaraka scandal debate. I saved you because we had come a long way when we were hustling for consultancy tenders in the streets. We used to plead with PS Kiptoo (Trade PS Chris Kiptoo) who would give us small jobs here and there for our survival,”

He later got lucky after he was made a Cabinet Secretary. The little power is getting into his head and he can now lecture us. If you are man enough, I dare you to face me for an MCA position in Nyamira. Elective politics is not a joke my friend,” Murkomen stated.

The Senate Majority Leader further claimed Matiang’i had voted for ODM Leader Raila Odinga in 2013 but was given a special privilege to join President Kenyatta first Cabinet.

The Senator was responding to a rant by the Interior CS where he appeared to target Deputy President William Ruto and his allied over attacks directed at Matiang’i and his PS Karanja Kibicho.

We have only one President, who is President Uhuru Kenyatta whom we get instructions from. We follow instructions given by the President, and any action taken by security personnel is simply a directive from the Head of State. We are not in the business of pleasing people through PR shows, we do government work,” Matiang’i said while speaking in Kibicho’s home village of Kagio.
