MP Aspirant Shocks Mourners After Donating 50/ Only in a Funeral
Kenyan politicians are known to splash millions in funerals or other community events especially during such a time when the elections are nearing.
However, this was not the case in Mathira where an MP aspirant donated Ksh. 50 as contribution to a funeral in the area.
The former street boy Daniel Kiige was carrying only KSh 100 when the fundraising took place on Saturday, June 25. He struggled with the decision of whether to donate the entire sum or go back home.
According to Nation, the young lawmaker distributed a KSh 100 bill and wanted KSh 50 in change so he could rent a motorcycle to travel home.
The action astounded the mourners, who commended him for contributing from his heart as opposed to others who donated money.
The move stunned the mourners who praised him for giving from his heart, unlike other people who gave from their pockets.
“I felt relieved. You know there is a sense of obligation once you get somewhere. I had remained with only KSh 100 bob and I intended 50 bob to be my fare back home. In fact it was even not enough. My fare from town is 70 bob, so I talked with a rider and he understood me.
You know I believe in giving what one has even what is seemingly small to the eyes of the people, but in return, I feel I have done my part in that particular moment. I believe in helping in whatever capacity one is in any situation,” Kiige said.
Previously, Kiige’s competitor for the seat United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Eric Wamumbi, asked him to withdraw from the race.
Wamumbi said instead of Kiige “begging” to fund his campaign, he was ready to offer him a job.
However, his considered demeaning remarks irked the residents who booed him saying the 21-year-old was better off.
