After nearly six months of uncertainty, Wajir MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, who went missing in September 2024, has finally reunited with his family.
His return brings relief to his loved ones and ends a distressing chapter that had sparked nationwide concern.
Family Overjoyed as Ahmed Returns
Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Jehow confirmed the Dela Ward MCA’s safe return, stating that he was welcomed home by relatives and friends on Saturday evening in Eastleigh, Nairobi.
“My heart swells with gratitude, with a joy so profound it brings tears to my eyes. May Allah bless him, protect him, and grant him peace. Alhamdulillah,” she expressed in an emotional message.
Mysterious Disappearance and Wrongful Identification
Ahmed was reportedly abducted on September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, triggering months of search efforts and political pressure to locate him.
A month after his disappearance, authorities retrieved a badly tortured and decomposed body from Lake Yahud, which was initially suspected to be Ahmed’s. Family members and locals flocked to the morgue to identify the remains, but after two independent DNA tests, it was confirmed that the body did not belong to him.
Political Uproar and State Involvement Allegation
The case sparked national outrage, with 47 County Assemblies threatening to adjourn House sittings if Ahmed was not found. Many MCAs alleged that the State was behind his disappearance for undisclosed reasons.
Further raising suspicion was the fact that just four days before his abduction, Ahmed had complied with summons from security agencies in Wajir, though the purpose of those summons remains unclear.
Unanswered Questions Remain
While Ahmed’s return brings relief, many questions remain unanswered, including who was responsible for his disappearance and where he was held for nearly six months.
As investigations continue, his ordeal highlights growing concerns over forced disappearances and political abductions in the country.
For now, his family and supporters are celebrating his safe return, hoping that justice and accountability will follow.
