Ida Odinga, the wife of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, was heckled at a Catholic Women Association (CWA) prayer day in Meru County on Saturday.
She had been invited, but the angry mob flatly refused to let her speak to them.
As the audience shouted, she said, “I’m a mother like you.”
The master of ceremony’s attempted to bring peace were useless, as the crowd stood firm, indicating their disinterest in what she had to say.
Senator Mithika Linturi, who was in attendance, tried unsuccessfully to calm the protestors.
Mama Ida chose to ignore the drama and concentrate on the holy significance of the occasion.
“I am here as a woman and you should not fail to listen to me because I am Raila Odinga’s wife. When you dress in the Catholic Women Association dress; it means you are a Christian. The faith should not only be seen by the dress but also from your heart.”
Following the event, her tweet reads:
“A day of reflection and prayer at the Catholic Women Association’s special celebration of the annunciation in Meru County. I have and will always hold onto faith that has remained a steady compass throughout my life.”
