A man was killed by a lion after attempting to take a selfie with the animal in a wildlife park in India.
The man, identified locally as 38-year-old Prahlad Gujjar from Alwar in Rajasthan, was in a non-public area of the Sri Venkateswara Wildlife Park in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, having ignored a guard’s warning to stay away from the lion and jumped into the enclosure, which had a 25-foot-high fence.
Before the guard could respond, the Dongalpur lion attacked and fatally injured him.
Investigation authorities are currently examining the man’s body, reportedly looking into whether Gujjar was under the influence of alcohol when he jumped the 25-foot fence.
Gujjar was alone in the wildlife park, and the police are working to contact his family.
The zoo houses three lions, including Dongalpur; the others are named Kumar and Sundari.
Since the tragic incident, the Dongalpur lion has been moved to a secured area and is under close observation.
