Pastor Victor Kanyari sparked controversy by humorously praying for gay TikTok Sammy Owiya, aka Mpenzi Chokuu, during a live session, prompting him to question his attire.
“Si najifunika jamani, si ukija mbele ya Mungu lazima uwe umejifunika mwili wako? (I am covering myself; don’t you have to cover your body when you come before God?),” Chokuu asked.
Kanyari expressed his confusion by asking:
“Kwani umevaa tena za wanawake si nilikuwa nadhani umebadilisha unavaa za wanaume?”
Pastor Kanyaris unexpectedly recited a dramatic prayer aimed at altering Chokuu’s sexuality, using religious and military language, and requesting divine intervention.
“In the name of Jesus, ndo huyu Mungu anashuka, Malaika wanashuka kung’oa hiyo sehemu ya siri..rudisha ile sehemu ya siri ilikuwa (In the name of Jesus, here comes God descending, angels are descending to remove that private part…restore the private part to what it was,” Kanyari prayed),” Kanyari prayed.
He continued with vivid imagery, “Fire! Guruneti ya kwanza ndo hiyo. Nataka kuingia kwa AK 47. Guruneti ya pili..fire! In Jesus name..halafu twende kwa mbazuka…AK 47 ndio hiyo…the blood of Jesus…tu tu tu tu tu…choma! Piga risasi! (Fire! That’s the first grenade. I want to go in with the AK 47. The second grenade…Fire! In Jesus’ name… let’s go to the explosion…that’s the AK 47…the blood of Jesus…tu tu tu tu tu…burn! Shoot!)”
Chokuu incorporated humor by shaking his backside during the prayer, indicating that the prayer was effective.
Kanyari continued his entertaining performance by saying:
“Nataka turushe sasa bomb… atomic bomb…semeni fire…sema fire….kwa comments sema fire…toa hiyo pepo…saidia fire…sasa natuma guruneti… fire… tupeni tupa bomb…nisaidie kutupa bomb. Chokuu I told you nimekuja kukomboa TikTokers. Nimepewa machine gun na Mungu, napiga risasi.”
“(I want us to throw a bomb now…an atomic bomb…say fire…say fire…in the comments, say fire…remove that demon…help with the fire…now I’m sending a grenade…fire…throw it, throw the bomb…help me throw the bomb. Chokuu, I told you I’ve come to deliver TikTokers. God has given me a machine gun, I’m shooting).”
After the prayer session, Chokuu humorously questioned the pastor about where he would get a job should he renounce his “earthly ways.”
“Utanipa kazi?(Will you give me a job?)” he asked, to which Kanyari responded, “Mungu atakupa, tutakuombea utapata kazi(God will provide, we will pray for you to get a job).”
