George Magoha, the cabinet secretary for education, has issued a warning to teachers and ministry employees not to get involved in politics while students are in school.
Speaking to teachers in Kisii county on Friday, Magoha urged them not to impede learning by participating in public political debates or going to political gatherings at the expense of their responsibilities.
Magoha asserts that political campaigning and participation in demonstrations are not permitted for teachers, nor are they permitted to publicly declare which political parties or candidates they support.
“I will not sit and watch as my staff and teachers join what I call stupid partisan politics. It has to stop because children don’t have political parties,” Magoha warned.
Adding:
“I would want those who are tempted to still support parties privately. Do not go on an open display of who you support. My party is the party of children.”
