According to court records, Raila Odinga’s family and the widow of his late son, Fidel Odinga, have been engaged in a protracted legal dispute over the management of his properties for the last 5 years.
Raila’s firstborn Fidel passed away in 2015 at the age of 41, leaving a multibillion dollar empire. He only left one son behind.
This led to a tag of war over his empire, between the family and his widow.
Cars
According records, Fidel owned several cars including two Range Rovers, KBS 027Y and KCA 026V, a Nissan Sunny KBR 301F and a Mercedes Benz KBG 595B.
However, according to Fidel’s widow, Lwam Bekelle, the KBY Range Rover now belongs to one Hossein, Fidel’s business partner who claims the car was sold to him. The second Range Rover KCA, she says, is registered under a Yunis Muhammed and was purchased by trading off another vehicle.
Land
Fidel had acquired several properties among them a house in Karen’s Tipuana Park, two pieces of land in Kisumu, a parcel of land in Kajiado, shares in Axum Investments Limited and Ambesa Investments Limited
Bank Accounts
Ida and Winnie listed three accounts at Gulf Bank – two for Kenya shillings and one for US dollars, another one at Diamond Trust Bank, Capital Centre Branch, Standard Charted Bank, Kenyatta Avenue, Stanbic Bank, Chiromo Branch where he ran a credit card.
A seventh account was held at ABC Bank, Industrial Area branch.
Out of Court settlement
The battle has been resolved thanks to the agreement reached by Odinga’s wife, Ida, and her daughter-in-law, Ms. Bekele.
Fidel Odinga’s widow will have complete control over three properties, including a home in Karen, following the judicial battle over his estate.
For the benefit of her son, a minor, the widow Lwam Getachew Bekele will keep the remainder of the inheritance, including cash in eight bank accounts, two automobiles, a land in Kisumu, and two investment enterprises, in trust.
This entails that she is unable to sell the properties’ assets or revenue, and the money in her accounts can only be used for the minor’s benefit, including covering costs related to school, health care, holidays, and clothing.
Among the properties handed to Raila’s grandson are a price of land in Othany in Kisumu and two motor vehicles- a Nissan Sunny and a Range Rover, the shares in Axum Investment ltd and Ambesa Investments ltd, 250 each.
According to an out-of-court agreement reviewed by the Mkenya Leo, Ms. Bekele and Mr. Odinga’s son, Raila Odinga Junior, have been appointed joint administrators of the estate.
“That an administrator of the estate being Fahm Getachew Bekele be substituted with Raila Odinga Junior so as to have Lwam Getachew Bekele and Raila Odinga Junior as the administrators of the estate of the Fidel Castro Odhiambo Odinga,” said the agreement.
