Narok senator-elect Ledama Olekina has accused leaders from the Kenya Kwanza alliance of assaulting him during the scuffle that occurred in Bomas before William Ruto was pronounced winner of the presidential race.
A video of Olekina attacking the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has been viral on the social media streets since Monday when the results were announced. Netizens came out in large numbers to condemn the leader for being violent when Kenyans needed peace the most.
Olekina took to his Twitter handle to defend himself and clear his name.
He claimed that Ruto’s supporters beat him up brutally. He revealed that most of the people who assaulted him were elected members of parliament from the Kenya Kwanza alliance, and they were shouting, “kill him!”
He went on to reveal that the police saved his life by whisking him out of the scuffle. He thanked the police body and everyone who had checked on him.
“I was brutally assaulted by @WilliamRuto supporters. Most of them elected members of parliament at Bomas of Kenya shouting kill him. The GSU protected me otherwise I would have been killed. Thank you @NPSOfficial_KE. I am grateful to everyone who has checked on me,” read Olekina’s post.
The Bomas scuffle occurred when the Azimo members tried blocking Chebukati from declaring Ruto as the winner, claiming that the results were not credible.
While announcing the results, Chebukati revealed that his two commissioners and CEO had been injured in the scuffle.
The matter is currently in the police’s hands as officials investigate what went wrong and who caused the violence witnessed at Bomas.
