Kenyans raise KSh370k fees for needy girl, her siblings few hours after mum pleaded for help
On the Thursday morning of May 11, 2023, lawyer Wahome Thuku made a financial appeal on Facebook to raise funds for a needy student who is Form One at Pangani Girls High School in Nairobi.
The girl who hails from Bomachoge Constituency in Kisii County, had a balance of term one and the rest of the terms this year.
“She is a Form One student at Pangani Girls High School in Nairobi. She was admitted there having scored 404 marks. She comes from Bomachoge Chache Constituency, Kisii County. Her parents could not afford to raise money to take her to Pangani Girls.
She has 4 other sisters and one brother. The two sisters in University have had to suspend their studies due to lack of fees. Two other siblings are in primary school back in the village.”
Target of KSh 66,000
The idea this time was to raise KSh 66,000 to clear the fees when she reports back.
“So I ask, let’s save this girl. Ksh66,000 is not worth making her drop out,” Thuku posted.
Surpassed the Target
In an amazing show of solidarity, it took a few hours for Kenyans to raise of 320,000
“Folks, I have no words to express myself. You have done what only God knew you would do. You have raised over Ksh320,000. Yes over Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand Shillings and that was by the time I started typing this. Its enough to clear fees for the girl for 4 years. It’s done.”
“Her family tried seeking assistance from local political offices, even from Kisii County Government but got no help. Her brother has just suspended his studies in KU over balance ya 18k. He is in First Year Education (English and Literature) student.”
In the follow-up post, Wahome revealed that he had cleared her school fees for the 4 years after receiving over KSh 370,000 towards the girl’s education, making it an impressive drive.
According to Thuku, the balance will cater for her siblings who are University.
“FOUR-YEAR school fees cleared to the coin. Working to clear other little amounts here and there. We then deal with the brother in KU. We still have an amount way over 100k. The parents are extremely overjoyed. You are great people. Showers of blessings,” read part of his statement.
