The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has chosen 278,006 students for admission into various public and private universities.
According to the CEO of the placement board, Agnes Mercy Wahome, 220,684 students have been placed in public universities for degree programs, with 57,322 set to join private universities.
A total of 19,752 students have been assigned to Non-Ministry of Education TVET institutions.
Additionally, 11,598 students will be pursuing diplomas in primary teacher education, while 2,210 students will be taking diplomas in secondary teacher education.
The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) will be welcoming 17,172 students across its 71 campuses nationwide.
Dr. Wahome highlighted that out of the applications received from students who achieved the C+ minimum university entry grade, 76.2% opted for degree courses, while the remaining students chose to pursue diplomas.
“Bachelor of Education attracted the highest number of applicants and male applicants continued to dominate placement to degree programmes, sustaining a trend that has been observed since the beginning of the central placement system,” she noted.
In contrast, female students have made up the majority of those placed in TVET institutions since 2020.
