Kisumu: Several people feared dead after lorry flies off fly over, crashing cars
Several individuals are believed to be dead in Kisumu after a lorry slid from the Kachok flyover and collided with a tuk tuk carrying passengers.
The lorry remains on the site and has yet to be moved.
Officers have arrived on the site.
A woman and her baby were among three people killed after a lorry transporting gumboots fell off a flyover and landed on a Tuk Tuk.
The tuk-tuk driver also died on the spot in the accident that occurred late Tuesday.
Police and witnesses said there were likely more people trapped under the lorry wreckage.
“It is so unfortunate, the lorry has crushed the tuk-tuk with the mother and her baby inside,” a witness said, “they just boarded it.”
Police had a hard time controlling a crowd that wanted to loot gumboots from the lorry at the accident scene in Kachok.
“We will only confirm the number of people dead once the lorry is moved away,” a police officer said at the scene.
The area where the lorry fell is a busy underpass where students pass on their way home from school as well as other people crossing the road.
Several accidents involving trailers have occurred at the same spot.
